I have spent close to three decades in real estate, and I am still as curious about it as I was on day one.
I am a Chartered Accountant by training, which is an unusual starting point for this business. Most people come into real estate through sales. I came into it through numbers. That has shaped everything about how I work. I look at brokerages the way I would look at any serious company: the economics, the incentives, whether the people inside it are actually building something they own, or just renting their own effort out by the month.
For years I helped build organised, branded brokerage in India during my time in leadership at RE/MAX India. I watched the industry grow up. It moved from handshake dealing to real franchising, real training, and real standards. That was a good chapter, and it taught me what a strong platform can do for an ordinary agent who is willing to work.
But I also saw the ceiling. In most of this industry, the agent does the work, the agent takes the risk, and the agent owns almost none of the upside. I kept coming back to one question. What would real estate look like if the people doing the work actually owned a piece of the business they were building?
That question is what led me to eXp.
Today I head eXp India. eXp is a cloud-based brokerage built on a simple, almost old-fashioned idea made modern: agents should be owners. They share in revenue, they can earn equity, and they are not trapped by geography or by a single office's overheads. My job is to bring that model to India properly, with the training, the standards, and the honesty it deserves, so that being an agent here can be a genuine long-term career and not just a way to chase the next deal.
Along the way I have been lucky to learn from people far smarter than me. I studied executive education at Harvard Business School and spent time absorbing how management is done in Japan, where discipline and respect for the craft run deep. I am also President of the Old Columban Association, which keeps me close to where a lot of this started.
These days I write and speak a fair amount about all of this. If you have read my newsletter or watched one of my videos, that is me trying to give the real state of real estate, without the spin.
If any of this resonates, and you are an agent or a founder wondering whether there is a better way to build your career in this business, come and see how eXp India works. No pressure. Just have a look, and decide for yourself.
